new kit...

... I'm going to do a right geeky thing now and wax lyrical about a new bit of computer kit that has just been delivered... we've had a posh scanner. And as well as the obvious stuff like scanning photographs and pages of text, it scans in colour film negatives and automatically converts them into jpgs (digital photos). The quality of the pictures it produces is absolutely excellent and I can now embark on the mammoth task of scanning in a lifetime's worth of negatives, if only I can find where I put them.

I also have my Aunt Joan's lifetime accumulation of photos which I can now put onto disc - there are around 500 photos - going back to late Victorian times, often portraying people who I don't know from Adam (or Eve come to that). Getting these scanned-in will be wonderful, as I love old photographs

The two picture accompanying this post are (above) a wedding group from the 1920s - my maternal grandmother is just below and to the right of the bride;
and (right) my aunt, on the right in the dark skirt, and her friend, on a beach somewhere (probably Hunstanton) in the 1950s.

Now let me see where did I put that box of negatives? - probably up the bloody loft ... moan moan grumble grumble

BTW - I'm going to put a gallery of photos of "Dark & Dank places" on our photo-site soon - I'll let you know when I do

Oh dear, famous last words from me too. I put things somewhere safe and never seem to be able to find them again. Unless, of course, I'm not looking for them. Then I seem to be able to put my hands straight on them :)

Loved looking at your photos Tone. I adore old photos, especially the sepia ones, which I have a few of somewhere! Oh, to be able to do as you have done and put them on my computer. No matter, I am getting there, I will manage to do so one day. I think they provide an excellent way of documenting family history and ensuring that previous generations are remembered by future generations who did not have the pleasure of maybe knowing them in person.

Hi D
You can use my scanner - unless you have a long-term/continuing need for one they're not worth getting - txxx

Hi T,

Thanks again for offering me the opportunity to use your scanner, that would be brilliant.

Now I just need to find the photos, which reminds me I really need to de-clutter. Hxx
