good day...

...sometimes my expection that a day will be bad is utterly confounded. Yesterday was such a day...
I woke at 4:18am and couldn't get back to sleep - my knees and shoulders hurt. I lay for a while hoping sleep would come, but by 5:30 I was downstairs seated in the cockpit with a cup of tea and my laptop. "Bad day in the offing" forecasts Bradwell man (57).
A couple of hours reading the Guardian and wikipedia ended when a knock on the front door announced the arrival of a new scanner (see previous post).
Now - whenever I install a new piece of computer kit I know that things will go horribly wrong. Several hours of frustrated fumbling and cursing, will be followed by an interminable call to a professionally pleasant person in Bangalore, Limerick or Kirkintilloch. Pessimism was proved unfounded however, and it all went perfectly - I was delighted with the results.

Sitting with a cup of tea and "Herland" I came over all dozy and snoozed for a couple of hours, waking refreshed. Lunch was peasy - a delicious leftover of veggy pie in the fridge, whereupon I was seized by "housework urge". Having satisfied the need to clean, I played with the scanner a bit more, finding loads more exciting featurettes, and then set-to reading the papers for tonight's meeting of the MAGMH trustees. Next, a positive and supportive phone call with my boss. Then, Christine arrived at five, we chatted for a bit and she gave me a lift to the meeting. The office was full of MAGMH trustees and workers, including some "mind blogglers" - purkul, etcb, domenica. Kind colleagues allowed me to chair the meeting, which was positive and productive, not least because we welcomed two prospective trustees. One of the outcomes was that we would set up a trustees blog in support of the "mind bloggling" project - coming soon - watch this space.
Another lift and I was home. Pen and I waded cheerily through some bureaucracy I had been putting off and off and off and ... I don't have to put it off any more, because it is done - hip hip... so ends a good day.
