lathkill dale, nr bakewell
... a good "joint day" on Saturday, so we went for a walk in the Peaks with Rhian and Richard. We talked a lot about them moving to the US (which they are likely to do later this year). They will only be going for a few years (Richard is going to take up the academic job of a lifetime), but we will miss them loads...
Lathkill Dale is the site of lead mining on a vast scale in the 19th and early 20th century and there are some remains of that past - but the real star of the valley is the River Lathkill and the plants and animals it supports...

well, what can i say other that wow! that photo is fab!
i love walking, it clears me head. & i especially like to walk in the country but never seem to motivate myself into actually doing it!
its a bit of a catch 22 though because the only time i seem to go is wen i arrange it with someone else but i much prefer to walk alone wiv me tunes on!

That's a most peculiar shade of green on the tree, reminiscent of a nightmare or horror film.
The green on the tree branches is moss of a particularly verdant hue. In fact I've never seen so much moss - from small tussocks on the ground in amongst the leaf litter to stone surfaces almost completely covered. The dale is a very damp place (not least the river was in flood) which must promote the growth of moss, but I suspect the unseasonably warm weather has allowed it to flourish - txxxx
Love your photos,in this one particularly, you have captured the rather spooky quality in the tree and branches quite dramatically.
