outrage makes me blog...
the disaster in New Orleans highlights the fuck you Jack culture, and racism that pervades the US government. The plight of the the poor, largely black families who have been all but abandoned for several days speaks volumes about a governmental culture which doesn't give a toss about those who don't have the resources to protect themselves.
This is not to deny that many brave and caring souls in the local government services in the US Gulf that have worked tirelessly to help fellow humans - the fact that they have done it with precious little support form national government only makes their efforts more praiseworthy.
Over the last few years we have seen many examples, at an international level, of this selfish philosophy (the Middle East/Iraq, G8, Kyoto, tsunami relief) - however this failure to care for even their own citizens shows the real nature of a self-seeking and hypocritical ruling culture.
I don't hate Americans - how could I when there is so much that is good in the culture and people (not least this) - but I detest an ascendant ruling class that is more than happy to see those not endowed with wealth, suffer in a way that the poor of the US Gulf coast are suffering now...
