on the turntable these days...

what with all the things going on in the world at the moment -

  • the return of the wireless (one in the eye for radio)
  • Child Poverty Action Group threatening to sue the government about how they recover overpayments of tax credits - I love you CPAG
  • the magnificence of my new acoustic guitar - a Faith Jupiter
  • the ascendancy of the accordian in English dance music - go Molly
  • the delightful wonder of my friends and my family

Well anyway... you'd think I could find something better to write about than what records/LPs/discs/albums are my current faves.........

but I'm going to tell you anyway -

  • The Magic Numbers - almost too good - they should have won the Mercury award just for the sheer exuberance of their album
  • BELLOW by John Spiers and Jon Boden - known as Squeezy and Starey around these parts - this may just be the best folk album ever made
  • The Randy Newman Songbook Vol 1 - sawn-off, aching perfomance of magnificently ironic songs
  • Revolition's "here you are" - I suspect I may have one of a very small number of copies of this CD - it is brilliant - I am honoured to count them among my friends. They have now morphed into "The Distance" and are stirring big waves... catch them in Camden in a couple of weeks time

Well now I've got that off my chest I'm off to trim my beard, cut my hair, and have a shower...

...Au revoir mes amis
